This full length album, titled “Damaged” by Houston band Seldom is an all-around strong album with catchy, sing-along type melodies and a good, moody, heavy, hard rock feel. The band has outdone themselves with this album. They know what they want to say and how they want to say it.
The album starts off with very cool sound effects, didgeridoos, and heavy-hitting metal riffs in the song titled “Legacy.” The vocals and harmonies throughout the album are strong and melodic. “Awake to Darkness” starts with a melodic, classic rock feel, then explodes into a more earthy, lush tone that pounds with the melody and changes the tone from an old sound to something very different. The overall feel of the song ties into the title “Awake to Darkness” — that dreaming state where you hear sounds far off then as you wake up, everything seems clearer. This track has some powerful chords and a good, solid, melodic solo.
The album is broken up by “Over & Over,” a strong ballad with some classical violin added to the mix.
The track “Watch Me Fall” sounds like something that should have been on a Marvel movie soundtrack — especially when Wind Up Records had the contract.
This album is set to release in mid-September, so make sure you get with the band or get out to the CD release party at Scout Bar on September 12 to pick up your copy.
