Since appearing in Houston in June on their first-ever national tour, Ohio rockers Starset have continued blowing away audiences across North America.
After a tour supporting Framing Hanley which brought the band to Houston, Starset toured the Northeast U.S. and parts of Canada with Lacuna Coil and Devil You Know. Meanwhile, the group’s debut single “My Demons” has become one of the year’s biggest hits and also set an all-time record on the Billboard charts.
In September, the group announced that the single “My Demons” reached the Top 5 at Mainstream Rock Radio and had set the mark for the longest Billboard chart run of the year at the format. More impressively, at after a 41-week run to the Top 5, “My Demons” became the longest chart climber ever.
The songs on the band’s debut CD “Transmissions” are hard to get out of your head. Driving rock melodies, punchy melodic choruses and catchy vocal hooks are just part of the reason the cinematic rockers are all over the airwaves right now. Their energetic live show, complete with a sci-fi stage setup carries the themes of the songs on stage in a unique way.
Frontman Dustin Bates said of the group’s thematic presence, “We don’t shy away from concept or art rock monikers at all. It’s a very natural thing for us.”
With this week’s release of Starset’s second official music video, for the hit single “Carnivore” the group is just another step along the path Bates said he hoped to achieve when he formed the band last year.
In a phone interview this summer, Bates explained that there is a comprehensive plan for Starset that includes a graphic novel (now in development) and a full-length novel that will detail the message of the Starset Society, which is the foundation for the concept album that is “Transmissions.”
“(Our) style musically also happened naturally due to the concept,” Bates said.
