UPDATE (8:45 p.m. CT, Thursday, Dec. 18, 2014) — Alamo Drafthouse and at least two other U.S. theaters have abruptly cancelled plans to show “Team America: World Police” in place of “The Interview.” Paramount Pictures has reportedly pulled the film from theaters after word spread that some theaters were planning to use the 2004 film as a substitute for the recently cancelled Seth Rogen and James Franco film that involves the assassination of North Korean leader Kim Jong-un.
Via Twitter, Alamo Drafthouse said:
Due to to circumstances beyond our control, the TEAM AMERICA 12/27 screening has been cancelled. We apologize & will provide refunds today.

Breaking Plaza news : Team America World Police pulled from all theatres as per Paramount Pictures .
ORIGINAL STORY: Earlier this week, the nation’s top theater chains announced that they were canceling the planned Christmas Day screenings of the new Seth Rogen/James Franco comedy “The Interview” due to ongoing threats against theaters and fans who show or attend screenings.
The film’s plot is essentially one big satirical stab at the isolationist government of North Korea and its leader, Kim Jong-un. Unnamed hackers, who tapped into Sony’s email archives and have released embarrassing information about the company, its executives and staff, and a number of Hollywood stars, have threatened violence against anyone who sees the film. Media reports this week indicate the U.S. Government believes North Korea is behind the hacking efforts and the threats. All of that led to Sony canceling the release of the film, which leaves fans who have been waiting to see it wondering what to do.
Iconic Texas-based Alamo Drafthouse has decided that, if they can’t show “The Interview” this Christmas, why not show another comedic jab at North Korea: South Park creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone’s “Team America: World Police.” That film makes prodigious fun of the current North Korean leader’s father and predecessor, Kim Jong-il.
So far, only the Austin-based chain’s location in the Dallas suburb of Richardson has announced a screening of “Team America. Thanks to widespread press, the free showing, scheduled for 7 p.m. on Christmas Day, is already full.

The world is different in 2014 than it was in 2004. Kim Jong Il is gone. I don’t know if Michael Moore is still around or not. But a lot of the brilliance in TEAM AMERICA is timeless. Acting is still the greatest gift any human being can possess, and it’s the only way to save America from the terrorists. And Matt Damon is still Matt Damon.
So celebrate your indendence this year with the Action Pack. We’ll have subtitles for all the songs and all of our favorite quotes, so you’ll have plenty of opportunities to scream out “AMERICA! F YEAH!” at the top of your lungs. And yeah, we will have American flags, red white and blue streamers, balloons, and more for everyone. And THAT is how true American heroes will be celebrating this year.
