Straight from Russia comes Wildways, a five-piece metalcore band that implements elements of hip hop, electronic, and that oh-so-good metalcore heaviness that completes a unique and loud sound.
Toli, Screamer/Singer/Rapper for the band, joined Wildways mainly as a guy to do the screams and guttorals, but on the group’s latest release, Into The Wild, Toli has let his voice shine and become something of a foundation to the band as raps and melodies have been introduced.
Toli tells me where his love for music came and his introduction into the band. “I just started with metal music and rock music like when I was in high school when I was only 14 or 15. I listened to too much Linkin Park & System of a Down, actually I never thought that I would be a screamer like that.”
“That is actually how the guy who started Wildways found me and asked me about screaming in the band and I was like yeah!,” Toli continued. “I never thought I would have a career like this, so it just happened,” he added with a laugh.
Let’s take a look at a couple of other statements from Toli to get the gritty details on the bands start, and what the message as a band is.
Band Origins: “Sergey and Harry founded Wildways but it was another band name. Wildways is our new name. We were popular under our other band name. We just wanted to make a more serious name so Wildways is how that happened.” – Toli
Messages in songs: “People are going to hear us and not really find something more. Definitely I have some messages in my songs when I write lyrics. First of all we just play music we want to make amazing music for those who listen to us.” – Toli
Amazing music is indeed what makes the world go round. If we take something different from it that helps us get through the day or a decade, that’s fine, but if we enjoy the bands that play live for us, record in the studio, create a music video, interact with us through social media, that is even better in my book.
The two current singles Faka Faka Yeah and Princess shine a new perspective on Wildways as it introduces old fans and new to a different side of Toli’s lyrics and how he wants to bring a fresh sound to his band. Faka Faka Yeah is a good time rap/metal style song with bite and some bass drops.
Princess on the other hand, that is a song with emotion and a female singer. During the interview Toli said this was a special song and one of his favorites off of Into the Wild as it approaches the topic of one of his ex-girlfriends. “It is a sweet sounding song for girls and for guys as well, it’s one of my favorites out of the new music.”
While I would love to include all the topics discuss within that 30-minute discussion, I want to thank Toli for speaking with me and letting me know why his band, Wildways, are going to carve a path into the music scene and bring the bite straight from Russia!
That said, Toli has some parting words to those who know and don’t know: “Hey guys, I’m Toli from Wildways, I know that you guys that we’re pretty bad but were good. Just give us a chance!” (laughs)
Can’t go wrong with a statement like that I say! Toli is truly a fun person to speak with and sets the example as he and his band interact with fans and show that kind of love you don’t really see nowadays from artist to fan.
With that dynamic and a killer sound, Wildways will conquer the world as we know it and make not only their dreams come true, but give fans something real and new to enjoy for years to come. So here’s looking Into the Wild and pick up the music known as Wildways.
